Why I’m currently (and always) obsessing over Charles Loloma jewelry, the father of ‘New Native American’ jewelry.
I’m always obsessing over Charles Loloma jewelry. Considered the Father of ‘New Native American’ jewelry, Loloma was a Hopi designer whose modern designs changed everything about jewelry and fashion.
“I felt a strong kinship to stones, not just the precious + semi-precious stones I use in my jewelry, but the humble stones I pick up at random while on a hike through the hills. I feel the stone and think, not to conquer it, but to help it express itself” – Charles LOLOMA

His childhood was surrounded by art. So, naturally he started producing murals and pottery known as Lolomaware. In 1955, he started making jewelry and by 1963 he had a Paris jewelry show that helped him reach international renown. His pieces are in the collections of top collectors including celebrities and socialites.

These Luxury Rings by Charles Loloma show how the modernist played with textures, dimensions, color, mystery and his Hopi cultural heritage. I love the colorful stones hidden within the gold band. pic.twitter.com/UY9plXW2oi
